P.E. Class this week, October 26 to October 30, 2015

I would like to remind parents to send your children dressed in an appropriate way for the days that they have P.E. class:
- No dresses for the girls
- No jeans
- No crocks
- No sandals
- No boots
Children who are not wearing the appropriate clothing will not be allowed to participate in P.E. class.

GENERAL INFORMATION
TODO TRANQUILO – “Todo Tranquilo” is a new child friendly conflict resolution program that will be implemented at Discovery School. The program focuses on enabling our students to effectively and assertively deal with difficult situations. Students interested in becoming “Calmadores” will begin their trainings during lunch this week. Trainings will take place from 12:20-12:45 in Ms. Cristiana’s room, beginning Tuesday, October 20. More information about this program can be found in the Elementary blog on our school website. If you have any questions please see Ms. Cristiana.

BOOK CHARACTER DAY - In keeping with Discovery School tradition, students are invited to dress up as his/her favorite book character. Your child should pick a book that he/she has read or that has been read to him/her. It should also be a book that was written before it became a movie or TV show. Please remember: NO SCARY COSTUMES! The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will set up a live interactive museum on Thursday, October 29 which will last from 8:50-9:40 a.m. This will allow the younger students to come and learn about new book characters. Parents are welcome to come and meet all of the exciting characters and learn about some new books.

DPTO UN Day Celebrations- our school UN DAY celebration will be on Friday, October 30, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. All school families are invited to participate and represent their country of origin. If you have a typical outfit from your country, and would like to participate in the annual showcase, please contact Carolina Villareal carovilla252@hotmail.com or Miriam Salgado miriamasalgado@yahoo.es

CHRISTIMAS BAZAAR- LOOKING FOR VENDORS- Discovery’s Helping Hands Club, a community service club that benefits the children of the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos orphanage will be having a Christmas Bazaar.  Interested vendors should email, Discovery_bazaar@outlook.com.

P.E. CLASS THIS WEEK
SECOND GRADE
This week we will continue developing pre-sport skills for baseball, we will include the use of globes and baseball bat for this skill.

THIRD GRADE   
We continue to strengthen the baseball pre-sport activities. This week we will use baseball gloves and baseballs to develop skills for the game. We also carried out activities to develop speed and endurance.

FOURTH GRADE
This week we will learn techniques for using a baseball bat and at the end of the week will have a baseball game to implement the techniques learned the previous weeks. We are also going to develop speed and endurance activities.

FIFTH GRADE
We will engage in various exercises to improve and develop the coordinative ability eye-hand, required in the execution of baseball games and strengthen the knowledge of the rules of baseball through playing games with the appropriate rules of baseball.

The team has invited all parents for a meeting on Tuesday, October 20, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The Early Childhood and Elementary parents will meet in the 2nd Floor Conference Room, and the Middle and High School Parents will meet in Community Information Center. Please mark your calendars/agendas if you are interested in coming and being a part of this accreditation process.

This week we are going to continue developing baseball pre-sport activities. We are going to use plastic and tennis balls to develop skills for the game and we are going to include the use of bean bags to strengthen these skills.

Third Grade
This week we will continue developing pre-sport skills for baseball, and some track and field activities to strengthen motor skills.

Fourth grade
We are working on the obstacle courses and some activities to develop speed and endurance. We are going to use baseball gloves so students can become familiarized with their use and be ready for a baseball game.

Fifth grade
We are working on baseball pre-sport activities, playing with tennis balls, baseballs and plastic balls, in order for students to learn to handle different sizes and textures.
This week to warm up we are going to hurdle races. We are also working on baseball pre-sport activities, such as throwing balls, catching using globes and batting.

Bricks4kidz ANNOUNCEMENT - Because of the changes in the October holidays, we would like to announce that the two remaining sessions of this first module of Bricks4kidz will be held on the following days:
Monday, October 5 – Session 3 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.
Friday, October 16 – Session 4 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.
We also want to give you a heads up that our second module will begin on the first week of November

P.E. Class this week
Second Grade
We are practicing teamwork by playing games in pairs, circles, and teams to develop fair play; playing games such as “Crossing the River” and “Frisbee Relay.”

Third Grade
We are developing teamwork by doing games in pairs, circles, and teams so the students learn to follow instructions and fair play.

Fourth grade
This week we will carry out teamwork activities that will lead to the development of leadership playing games such as “The Guide” and “Romulo and Remo”.

Fifth grade
This week the fifth grade students will practice teamwork, manipulation skills activities, playing games such as The “Pyramid” and “Crossing the River”.
