P.E. Class this week, December 8 to December 12, 2014
I would like to remind parents to send your children dressed in an appropriate way for the days that they have P.E. class:
- No dresses for the girls
- No jeans
- No crocks
- No sandals
- No boots
Children who are not wearing the appropriate clothing will not be allowed to participate in P.E. class.

P.E. Class this week
PRE-KINDER
We are going to develop motor skills through the manipulation of various objects, such as scoops and different sizes of balls.

 KINDERGARTEN
We will be performing games such as relay races and the students will start learning basic basketball skills.

FIRST GRADE
During this week the students are learning about physical condition .We will continue to play basketball.


SECOND GRADE
The second graders will be practicing different exercises to improve their physical condition. And at the same time, they will continue learning basic basketball skills.

THIRD GRADE
This week, we will continue with the basketball season.
At the same time, they will develop physical activities to improve fitness conditions and we will begin to play basketball.

 FOURTH GRADE
The students will learn about basic basketball skills. At the same time, they will develop physical activities to improve fitness conditions. We will begin to play basketball.

 FIFTH GRADE
This week the students will learn how to identify biomechanic concepts and different types of movement. We will begin to play basketball games.

DPTO FAMILY BINGO NIGHT – The DPTO will be hosting fun filled BINGO evening for Discovery families and friends on Friday, December 5. Incredible prizes are in store for those who attend! Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Don’t miss out on this opportunity! Tickets are only L100!

BOOK DONATION - Amor Fe y Esperanza (AFE) is an organization located on the outskirts of Tegucigalpa that has been rescuing children from the garbage dump and breaking the cycle of poverty in their lives. AFE is in the process of furnishing its library. We are asking for any new or used Spanish books (children’s books, novels, nonfiction, encyclopedias etc.) you might have and that you would like to donate to the AFE library.  These books can be brought and given to your homeroom teacher.  If you would like more information about AFE, please visit their website at www.afehonduras.org

SONG FEST – Please mark your calendars for this year’s Song Fest. There has been a change in time! The performances will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The students are going to enjoy different types of Scoops games, such as monkey in the middle to continue developing their motor skills.

KINDERGARTEN
This week the students carry out activities to develop eye/hand coordination.

FIRST GRADE
Strengthen the eye/hand coordination through basketball pre-sport activities, using balls with different surfaces.

SECOND GRADE 
Through recreational activities, I will introduce the students to the scoops game, which is a pre-sports activity for the lacrosse game.

THIRD GRADE
During this week, students are learning about physical condition and introduction to basketball; they are doing this by using the game skills.

FOURTH GRADE
The 5th graders will be practicing different exercises to improve physical condition, and at the same time, they will start learning the basic basketball skills.

FIFTH GRADE

This week, we are going to start with the basketball season.  The students will learn about the basic basketball skills; at the same time, they will develop physical activities to improve fitness conditions.

Please come join us and support DISCOVERY PUPS TEAM!! We have invited to participate in the MINI OLYMPICS at Villa Olimpica. Students are very exited to participate. We will be going three days. Wednesday 19, Thursday 20 and Friday 21st, from 8:30-11:30 am. Please make sure that your child has a good breakfast, wear sneakers, a cap, and sunscreen. We hope you can join us!

MIDTERM – This Friday, November 14 marks the midpoint of the second quarter. Midterm Progress reports will be sent home next Friday, November 21.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR – The School’s Community Service Club's will host a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, November 22, Get your early Christmas shopping done! Spread the word with your family and friends!

FUNDACION ABRIGO – Once again, Discovery School support Fundacion Abrigo in their mission to lodge families from the rural areas who come to Hospital Escuela. We are asking our school families to send 1 gallon of in the disinfectant per family, and to send it in by Friday, November 21. What a wonderful way to show our gratitude for what we have – to share what we have with those in need!

MIDTERM – This Friday, November 14 marks the midpoint of the second quarter. Midterm Progress reports will be sent home next Friday, November 21.

Kinder and First grade, have been invited to participate in the Mini Olympics for bilingual schools on Nov. 19, 20th, and 21st. It will take place at the Villa Olimpica from 8 to 11: 30 am. Your child will be representing the school and we have decided to wear a short and t-shirt with the school's logo. We will appreciate if you can send L.350.00 no later than Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014. Make sure it comes in a sealed envelope and with your child's name.

In this week we will continue working on lateralities, by playing games using freebees, and the color race.

FIRST GRADE
This week we will continue developing baseball pre-sport activities. We are going to use plastic and tennis balls to develop skills for the game and we are going to include the use of baseball bat to strengthen these skills.

SECOND GRADE
This week we will continue developing pre-sport skills for baseball, we will include the use of globes and baseball bat for this skill.

THIRD GRADE   
We continue to strengthen the baseball pre-sport activities. This week we will use baseball gloves and baseball bat to develop skills for the game.

FOURTH GRADE
This week we will learn techniques for using a baseball bat and at the end of the week will have a baseball game to implement the techniques learned the previous weeks.

FIFTH GRADE
We will engage in various exercises to improve and develop the coordinative ability eye-hand, required in the execution of baseball games and strengthen the knowledge of the rules of baseball through playing games with the appropriate rules of baseball.

There will be no school on October 30 and 31 in compliance to Congress’ decree for mowing the holidays this month.  Classes will resume on November 3

KUDOS FOR CREATIVE INSTRUCTION – This Wednesday, October 15Ms. Marisela and Ms Norma will be sharing the digital stories that the third, fourth and fifth graders created on Storybird.com The final products will be shared with parents during our Student Led Conferences.

We are working on learning to follow instructions, understand and listening commands, such as circles, lines, also through games children learned to recognize, clothing and colors, differentiate a boy and a girl.

 KINDERGARTEN
In this week we will start working on lateralities, to develop these skills we are using games like scorpion, will play the color race to further strengthen this knowledge

 FIRST GRADE
This week we are going to start developing baseball pre-sport activities. We are going to use plastic and tennis balls to develop skills for the game and we are going to include the use of bean bags to strengthen these skills.

 SECOND GRADE
This week we will start developing pre-sport skills for baseball, and some track and field activities to strengthen motor skills.

 THIRD GRADE   
We are working on the obstacle courses and some activities to develop speed and endurance. This week we are going to use baseball gloves so students can become familiar with its use and be ready for a baseball game.

 FOURTH GRADE
We are working on baseball pre-sporting, playing with tennis ball, baseball and plastic balls, for them to learn to handle different sizes and textures, so they can be ready when we play a game.

FIFTH GRADE
This week to warm up we are going to do hurdle race, we are also working on baseball pre-sporting, working in activities such as throwing, catching using globes and batting.

ELEMENTARY TRACK AND FIELD ACTIVITY
The third, fourth and fifth grade students will be going on a fieldtrip this Tuesday, September 30 to the Palacio de los Deportes at the UNAH. They will be accompanied by their homeroom teachers and a group of parents. Permissions slips and the entrance fee (L25) should be turned in as soon as possible. Students need to wear the appropriate clothing for this activity.  

MODEL U.N. CLUB – The Model U.N. Club will meet after school on Tuesday, September 30 to discuss the competitions the club plans to participate in this year.  All interested students in Grades 9-12 are encouraged to attend.

MAP FALL TESTING SESSION –We continue with week 3 of our fall testing session. Your cooperation in making sure your child does not miss school on the days we have the tests is greatly appreciated.

HOLIDAY – We want to remind parents that this Friday, October 3 is a holiday – there will be no school!

KINDERGARTEN
We are working on different obstacles races to improve coordination. We are also going to play different games with the jump rope to develop gross motor.

First Grade
We are working on developing teamwork activities, by playing games such as “Space Walk and Bowling.” The students will play in pairs and circles to develop leadership and fair play.

Second Grade
We are practicing teamwork by playing games in pairs, circles, and teams to develop fair play; playing games such as “Crossing the River” and “Frisbee Relay.”

Third Grade
We are developing teamwork by doing games in pairs, circles, and teams so the students learn to follow instructions and fair play.

Fourth grade
This week we will carry out teamwork activities that will lead to the development of leadership playing games such as “The Guide” and “Romulo and Remo”.

Fifth grade
This week the fifth grade students will practice teamwork, manipulation skills activities, playing games such as The “Pyramid” and “Crossing the River”.
