P.E. Class this week September 2 to September 6, 2012
Welcome to another fun year at Discovery School, we are ready to begin the activities and have fun in the process.

I would like to remind parents to send your children dressed in an appropriate way for the days that they have P.E. class:

-  No dresses for the girls
-  No jeans
-  No crocks
-  No sandals
-  No boots

Children who are not wearing the appropriate clothing will not be allowed to participate in P.E. class.

P.E. Class this week
Pre Kinder
The students are going to work in activities to reinforce what they are learning in class such as the colors and shapes.

Kindergarten
We are working on strengthening the concept of colors and shapes with games such as “color races”. We are also going to play balance games.

First Grade
We are going to work on to following instructions, doing the proper warm-ups, and participating in games that strengthen aerobic capabilities.

Second Grade
Besides working on following instructions, we will be strengthening laterality (i.e. right and left, around, through it).

Third Grade
We will continue to work on the appropriate ways to warm up. Each student will have the opportunity to contribute with an exercise. We will also be working on follow instructions with games and directions given to the students, and participating in speed and strategy games. 

Fourth Grade
This week we will continue addressing the physical bases of the body conducting and assessments in speed, jumping, strength, and endurance. These assessments establish a starting point to determine the physical capabilities of each student.

Fifth Grade

This week will continue to learn about the physical condition of each student. Each student will be encouraged to put forth his or her best effort in a battery of standardized tests, each task focusing on a different physical element of their basic skills.

P.E. Class this week

Pre-kinder

        Kindergarten
This week we will work on outdoor activities and games for children to get used to following instructions.

        First Grade
With the outdoors activities we will carry out this week the student will understand listening to commands such as homes, circle line, quiet signals.

        Second Grade
This week students will practice different types of motor skills by using different indoors games as support.
        
      Third Grade
This week the third graders will practice different games that will help them to build their motor skills.

       Fourth Grade
Students will engage in activities that help in developing their physical abilities such as speed, strength and endurance.

       Fifth Grade
The students will know their physical abilities in different kinds of muscles in addition to developing their motor skills.

P.E. CLASS THIS WEEK
The season is getting hotter! It is recommended for children to wear sunblock and always have their water bottle with them.

Pre-Kinder
We will develop motor skills through the manipulation of various objects, such as Frisbee and different sizes of balls.

Kindergarten
We are working on different obstacle races to improve coordination. We are also going to play different games with the soccer ball to develop gross motor.

First Grade
We are going to develop pre-sport activities such as passing the ball between partners in different ways, and techniques to learn the appropriate way to kick a soccer ball.

Second Grade
The students are going to learn how to control and kick the soccer ball, some techniques to pass the ball to a partner and goalkeeper practice.

Third Grade
We are working on some pre-sports activities to develop the soccer game such as controlling the ball in different routes, passing and kicking the soccer ball, and goalkeeper practice.

Fourth Grade
This week we will focus on activities that promote teamwork and the importance of each of the team member has for the achievement of the goals of the group.

Fifth Grade
This week we will carry out different activities such as the Web and Centipede, to encourage teamwork and the importance of each member of the group for the achievement of group goals.

THE CHRONICLES OF DISCOVERY GALA is coming May 17, 2013.  The Chronicles Gala is coming May 17, 2013.  This formal, black tie event is modeled after the Oscar’s in that there pomp and extravagance, live entertainment and hors d’oeuvres, photographers and a quartet.  It is a celebration of literature and art, specifically for the Chronicles of Discovery Literary and Art magazine. 
The Gala begins at 7:00pm pm May 17, 2013. Purchase your tickets for L. 100 from any AP Composition student, Mr. Fenn, or Carolina. (EL Heraldo and TN5 will be covering the event.)

DISCOVERY ZONE 4 – Our amazing Summer Camp is back, beginning June 10. If you are interested in enrolling your child(ren) please stop by the office to pick up the registration form or access the form on our website (www.discoveryschool.edu.hn)  Great discounts are available!

P.E. CLASS THIS WEEK

PRE-KINDER
We are going to run obstacles races to develop gross motor skills and we will be playing “Color games”.

KINDERGARTEN
We still developing gross motor skills by playing the scorpion game and running some obstacles races.

FIRST GRADE 
We are working on some pre-sports activities (such as controlling the ball in different routes) to develop soccer games.  

SECOND GRADE
This week we are going to develop some pre-sports activities for soccer such as; control, pass and kick the soccer ball with a partner.

THIRD GRADE
This week we will develop soccer pre-sports activities, to learn techniques such as pass and kick the soccer ball. We are also going to play circle games to reinforce this knowledge.

FOURTH GRADE
This week we will resume activities that stimulate physical strength through exercises to develop muscular strength, (using our own weight). The above will be combine with endurance activities. We will participate in relay races with different exercises in each of the stations.

FIFTH GRADE
This week we will focus on the muscular development. We are going to use a circuit with different exercises for specific parts of the body (such as pushups, racing jumps, and squats). At same time, we will work on strength with obstacle courses.

WEDNESDAY MAY 1ST, NO SCHOOL


PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS
BINGO returns to Discovery! - Proceeds to buy    TECHNOLOGY for the school. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, May 4! Lunch will be sold for all attending families, friends and guests starting at 11:00 a.m. and the grand BIGO will begin at 1:30 p.m. PARENT COLLABORATION NEEDED in donating prizes for this event. Make sure you contact the school if you are sending the envelope with your child, especially if he/she is very young, so we can follow up on the envelope.

PRE-KINDER

The students are going to The Villa Olímpica, on April 16, 17 and 18, to participate in The Invitational Athletic Competition, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.

The school is currently organizing three important upcomming events. The DPTO FUN RUN AND OLYMPIC GAMES and a school BINGO are being put together to raise funds towards buying TECHNOLOGY for the school The DPTO is also organizing their annual GARAGE SALE. Please check the Administration Blog for this week’s Monday Memo for more information. Our parents' help is much needed and greatly appreciated in making these events a success!
