P.E. Class this week February 24 to February 28, 2014

I would like to remind parents to send your children dressed in an appropriate way for the days that they have P.E. class:
-  No dresses for the girls
-  No jeans
-  No crocks
-  No sandals
-  No boots
Children who are not wearing the appropriate clothing will not be allowed to participate in P.E. class.

EARLY DISMISSAL WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26 – Please remember that our teachers will have a Professional Development afternoon this Wednesday. Our students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. This day we will follow PM Schedule.

KINDER ZOO:  You are all invited to the Kinder Zoo this Friday, February 28th!
The Kindergarten students have been studying about the different animal groups. To wrap up this unit, we are hosting a Kinder Zoo in our classrooms. Each child will bring a 3D model of an animal that was assigned to them at the beginning of the month. They will all come dressed as a zookeeper, a veterinarian or representing the animal itself. Parents will join the presentations from 8:20 to 9:40 a.m. After snack, we have come up with a schedule so each class can have the opportunity to travel around our zoo.

PRE-KINDER
We are having a lot of fun with pre-kinder as we are learning to do warm ups and exercises that the students can do if they follow instructions (such as “Follow the Leader” and boys and girls races). 

KINDERGARTEN
We are going to run obstacles races to develop gross motor skills and we will be playing “animal games”.

FIRST GRADE
We are still developing volleyball pre-sport activities by doing volleys (low and high), in pairs using the official size ball. 

SECOND GRADE
We are going to do low volley and high volley in pairs and threes with a volley ball. These activities will lead to the development of volleyball pre-sport activities.

THIRD GRADE
We continue developing teamwork activities by working on low volley and high volley activities in pairs and circles. The purpose of these activities is to develop volleyball pre-sport activities.

FOURTH GRADE
We will continue with the practice of volleyball basic skills. The students will put into practice what they have learned by playing a volleyball game in small groups.

FIFTH GRADE
This week the fifth grade students we will continue with the implementation of the volleyball basic skills by putting in practice what they have learned when playing a volleyball game in small groups.

MIDTERM AND MAP REPORTS – Please sign and return the Midterm for the third quarter that were sent home last Friday, February 7.
CHANGE IN MOVIE DATE AND TIME FROM THE DPTO –In order to offer "The Lego Movie" to our school community in English, the DPTO has moved the date for the movie to Sunday, February 23rd, at the same time, 11:00 a.m. The current Tickets will work for this day. Once again, the DPTO apologizes for this inconvenience and hopes to see you at the theatre then!

CANDIDATE FOR HEAD OF SCHOOL VISIT – We would like to remind our parents that Mr. Robert Gronniger will be visiting our school as a candidate for the Head of School Position. Mr. Gronniger will be on site this Monday, February 10 and Tuesday, February 11. There will be a Q&A Session for Parents on Tuesday, February 11, from 8:00 to 10:00 am in the school library. We encourage our parents to attend this session and seize the opportunity to ask questions to this candidate.
MIDTERM AND MAP REPORTS – The Midterm for the third quarter was last Friday, February 7. Midterm Reports and MAP reports will be sent out this Friday, February 14. Please review them and return them signed by Tuesday, February 18.
PICTURES FOR THE YEARBOOK – The individual and class pictures for the 2013-2014  yearbook will be taken from Tuesday, February 11 to Wednesday, February 19. Please send your child looking his/her best on the day that his/her grade is scheduled. Merlin Pictures will be taking the photos and will be offering different packets of our students’ pictures at a very convenient price for parents to buy.
SCHOLASTIC BOOKS!  TODAY (Monday, February 10) is final date to purchase books online. The books will arrive at the school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase due date. P.E. Class this week February 3 to February 7, 2014

MAP TESTING – This is week three (the final week) of our second MAP testing session for this school year. Reports will be sent home along with the Midterm Progress Reports on Friday, Febrary 14.

PICTURES FOR THE YEARBOOK – The individual and class pictures for the 2013-2014  yearbook will be taken from Tuesday, February 11 to Wednesday, February 19. The specific day and time for each grade will be posted next week.

CHOIR PARENTS – On Monday, February 3, at 3:15 p.m., there will be a mandatory meeting in the school Library for parents of all Choir students who are planning to travel to New York City in June 2014 to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall. Information will be given concerning the trip and payments needed, and Important decisions about the trip will be made. We need at least one parent for each Choir student to attend this meeting.

SCHOLASTIC BOOKS! - This month your child(ren) will have the opportunity to purchase books through the International Scholastic Book Clubs.  This is an optional activity offered by the school, in case you want to motivate your child to read at home and to increase their own library.  With your purchase, our library will accumulate points to redeem for more books for the benefit of your children in our school. Order forms and catalogues were sent home previously. The final date to purchase the books online is February 10. The books will arrive at the school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase due date. FROM THE DPTO – PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS – The DPTO has been organized the traditional Movie Event for Discovery School families. This year, it will take place at NOVACENTRO on Sunday, February 9 at 11:00 a.m. for the presentation of THE LEGO MOVIE

P.E. Class this week
PRE-KINDER
We will strength the vocabulary that is learned in the classroom; such as, foot, arm, leg, eyes, nose, mouth, knee, elbow, head, neck, hands, and fingers.

KINDERGARTEN
This week, we will continue to develop gross motor skills by going on an imaginary journey to the mountains of Honduras.

FIRST GRADE
We continue to work on volleyball pre-sports activities such as, parachutes, volleyball, and races with the ball hoop.

SECOND GRADE
This week, we continue to develop teamwork activities (such as parachute games) that will lead to the volleyball pre-sport activities.

THIRD GRADE
We continue developing teamwork activities, and participating games that develop the volleyball pre-sport activities.

FOURTH GRADE
We will begin to develop strategy games in couples and in groups. At the same time we will continue with the practice of volleyball basic skills. The students will put into practice what they have learned through volleyball pre-sports activities.

FIFTH GRADE
We will continue with the implementation of the volleyball basic skills: reception, pass, and control of the ball.
